Chinook Books for Babies

Chinook Books for Babies is a family literacy program which recognizes, celebrates and supports parents as their children’s first teachers. Books for Babies encourages parents to read to their children early in life, as birth to 2-3 years is an important window of opportunity for the brain to develop language skills.
Chinook Books for Babies is a unique partnership between Alberta Health Services, and Chinook Arch Regional Library System and its member libraries. The partnership provides every newborn baby in the region with a baby-friendly reading kit. The kit includes a bookbag containing suitable books to share with your child, tips to help make reading fun for the whole family, and suggestions on some good books to share with your baby.

Support Chinook Books for Babies

We rely on donations and grants to continue our work. All new parents in the region receive a free bookbag kit. For some families these are the only books the children have at home. If you are able to help us continue this worthwhile program, please consider making a financial donation.
